How to Catch a Leprechaun

Three different traps that are sure to catch leprechauns for your children (or grandchildren) this year.

This wonderful hat trap is made from a construction paper, tape, twigs, hot glue, and "gold". I first spotted this creation at Poppies at Play. It is surprisingly easy to make, and oh-so-cute!

Here is the traps secret: The top is a circle with an X cut in it.

Our "gold" is just a bit of Christmas ribbon wadded up. The ladder was simple just two long twig pieces and several short twig pieces hot glued together.

This second trap is a box lid. The shamrocks are made from some green hearts and stems. A stick props it up.

And penny taped to the inside of the box to lure them in.

This last one is a creation by my 12 year old. It is half of a cracker box painted green.

We taped two pennies to the back of the door for weight and attached thread to the top.

The thread is fed through a hole in the top of the box and weighted inside with four pennies. When the pennies are taken the door is released and the leprechaun is trapped!

But I must admit a sad truth, we have never actually caught a leprechaun. They have always got away with the gold. Clever little buggers. They do manage to leave foot prints behind though. Which I have always thought look like fat exclamation marks.

Hope you get LUCKY and catch leprechauns this year.

This is absolutely darling. I think my favorite is that cute hat and I will be trying that with my grand daughters. I love when the kids get into the act, the other two are terrific. Maybe this year is the year to catch your leprachaun.
You are very creative and I hope to have some time to come back and browse.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and I hope you come back often.

Wow those are so cute!!! Your boys may not catch a leprechaun, but they have such a rich, rich childhood of happy and loving memories.
We don't have that holiday in the Philippines. It sure does sound fun.

Happy St Patrick's Day from N Ireland :)

No leprechauns here either, but maybe that is because we have not been trying to catch them!

My kids are fascinated by all these celebrations and traditions for St Patrick around the world. Most are totally new to us (including Corned Beef!)
